This is an excellent example of the Wrenn W2227 4-6-2 City Class "City of Stoke on Trent" in LMS Black, running number 6254. Introduced by Wrenn Basildon in Period 2 (Triang/Wrenn) they continued in production through P3/P4. They finished circa 1989 before Basildon closure in 1992. Most examples today are " play worn" due to continuous layout use, this example is not and comes from the Mid Period 3 build.(circa 1975/6). As with all Period 3 Locomotives it has "metal rimmed" bogie wheels on the Locomotive and tender.
The Locomotive/tender comes complete with original P3 box, tissue, packing rings, Hornby Dublo coupling conversion kit and Instruction Manual. The base of the inner box has the usual sellotape residue marks and Packer No 6 stamp in black ink denoting Period 3 Basildon issue.
Condition of the Locomotive/tender/box is "excellent to near mint" for their age.
