These are two example of the early Hornby Dublo POST WORLD WAR 2 Class N2 Tank Locomotives issued by Meccano Ltd Liverpool between 1947 and 1953. Both are for 3 Rail operation and have the familiar Mazak wheels throughout. Couplings again are post -war with the front sprung in both cases. Both rear bunkers are open - no coal. Lettering is gold coloured with red surrounds, and the 6699 Tank has numbers on the buffer bars indicating late issue. Both of these examples have the slight notched buffer bar which continued for a period after the end of World War 2.
Examples of these early Hornby Dublo Tank Locomotives are becoming more difficult to find today, however the layout performance I have to admit is superb, even outstripping the Wrenn N2 versions which of course use an R1 type motor which was also a Meccano development..
