Wrenn W2226 "City of London" Locomotive - BR Maroon - 1987 Issue
Available: 1   £185.00    Buy Now

This is a great opportunity to own the Wrenn W2226 "City of London" in BR Maroon Livery, running number 46245. The tender has the later BR crest. Wrenn introduced this Locomotive in Period 2 (Triang/Wrenn Era), and it survived in production until closure in 1992, however  "near mint" examples are difficult to find today as most have been "play worn" over the years., This is not and has seen minimal layout use if any in my opinion. These later P4 versions had the thinner more pronounced lining (Valve boxes matching the Loco body lining) with the standard MK 1 chassis. The clear satin finish on the Loco also indicates the later Period 4 build. (Circa 1987).

The Locomotive/tender bogies have hard wearing "metal rimmed" wheels throughout, which were introduced in the late Triang/Wrenn Basildon build, the main driving wheels are metal as with all Wrenn Locomotives. .

The Locomotive and tender comes complete with original box, tissue, packing rings,  and  Instruction Manual. The bottom of the inner box is stamped "Packer No 3 07416" in black ink indicating Week 16, 4th Month 1987 as Period 4 Basildon issue. As most collectors are aware the use of sellotaping the boxes by the Basildon factory did encroach into early P4 however I believe this ceased circa 1982.

Condition of Locomotive/tender/box is "near mint to mint" considering their age, and I do not believe you will find a better example from the later P4 Basildon build.
